The biggest irony about this disgusting little racist is that his approach is utterly #postmodern. He seems to truly believe that he can invoke nonexistent genetic differences in humans by simply claiming their reality, over and over again.
I've called this #PhilosophicalTrumpism. Trump never lies, but everything he says *becomes* truth instantly. In his mind, at least.
Same for #Cofnas. Everything is discourse. And everything turns to #bullshit... truly hateful bullshit, in his case.
Language idiom fun. "Wasted" in the sense of "wasted effort" in Finnish: "hukkaan heitetty", literally translated "thrown into a wolf".
Mein Blog wird jetzt als 'Hatespeech' eingeordnet, mglw als Folge der Erklärung der US-Regierung, Autistici sei Terrorismus.
Das ist alles völlig unglaublich.

@david_chisnall Sounds a lot like what Series 5 was!
I might be one of the few people who preferred the 3 to the 5. The touchscreen bits of the 5 felt bolted on. The keyboard of the 5 was nicer but the battery life was terrible. The bigger screen meant that app designers didn’t need to take as much care to ensure everything was clearly presented and so didn’t.
Terrific news! The awesome Paperback dev and contributors just fixed my pesky ALT+Tab focus issue! Paperback is simply matchless when it comes to usability, accessibility, feature-richness, and developer response.
@TheQuinbox
I hesitate to say this bluntly, because I know a whole lot of folks on here are actively involved in technical development of one sort or another, and derive both pleasure and a significant part of their identity from that fact. There’s something I think we all need to get clear on, though, and it’s something I myself had to learn the hard way: no tool will liberate us. The achievement of justice cannot be automated, or otherwise outsourced to a technical apparatus of any sort.
You work on tools because that’s what you’re good at, because that’s the way your brain works, because that’s what you enjoy or can get compensated for doing. That’s all as may be. But please, please do not make the mistake of thinking that the tool – any tool, of any sort whatever – will produce “progress.” There is and can be no technical fix for the social-psychological, existential or ontological predicaments that confront us. In the end there is only us, staring back at us from whatever mirror we’ve built.
@adamgreenfield Thank you for starting this thread. Most interesting and enjoyable. At almost 82 I've been lucky to have been privy to a lot of system changes, tool changes, and social changes. Degrees in psychology, linguistics, psycholinguistics, years of teaching in environmental and population psychology and then specialising in databases, IT training companies, and consulting.
From working on the early #ARPAnet to today's internet. From discussing "AI" (early machine learning) with one of the original researchers at Stanford in 1964 to working with Microsoft on Natural Language Query processing in SQL Server to watching the absurd claims of #TheGreatAI_Grift.
It's been a wild ride as well as frustrating - The Limits to Growth #ClubOfRome #MIT was written by classmates trying to raise the alarm about the nature of dynamic systems, particularly as they interact at environmental, social, physical, and economic levels. Their early work has been expanded many times but especially in Australia by CSIRO.
The (system) tools and computing informed much about the probable dynamics of global systems and yet many lessons have not been learned. The current #AI_Hype is an extraordinary lesson in a bizarre approach to tools.
One of the best works on tools was written by Prof Bill Merrill.
Well worth a read.
When originally written as his PhD the manuscript was stolen twice - powers in the US didn't like what he was saying. #DangerousIdeas

Otherwise this there are PDF of it.
Just as the unintended consequences of the internet are ever more apparent there are many early warning signs already around the #AI_Con and the tools being bandied about.
All tool makers should print out your comment Adam and make it a morning ritual to reread it.
The World's dynamic systems keep sending us messages and humankind continues to ignore them, to trivialise them, to pretend they aren't system feedback.

The people of the globe need to all stop being distracted by the glitter of the tools and money and focus on actually saving the planet or at least really slowing the downward climate cycle. Heating up the planet with thousands of unnecessary #AI_DataCenters is a particular kind of madness in this epoch. #Nepal is a timely warning to the world.
Another useful perspective is provided by Prof William Rees

How tools are used by humans has always had consequences. Consider them. Consider what goals we really need, not what the short-sighted #GreedyRich tell us.
Thank you again @adamgreenfield 🙏🏽🥂🥂
To real tool wisdom 💖💖
"Where is the grace for human error? Where is the investment in making humans exceptional? Surely investing real money in actual workers — making their lives better, improving their working conditions, teaching them new things, sharpening their existing skills, rewarding them for their hard work, and so on — would have better effects than fastballing hundreds of billions of dollars into a machine that does an impression of work?"
Over 150 wildfires are burning in Algeria 🇩🇿, but the country has received little international news coverage or aid compared to European countries on the other side of the Mediterranean.

I don’t have very many regrets in life to speak of, but I was reminded of one of the greatest this morning: that the great Grace Jones wasn’t actually present at the party I attended at her flat in the Chelsea Hotel, in 1992 or so.
In her absence, the most memorable thing about that party was the discovery that Keith Haring had painted her entire bathroom, every last surface of it. The toilet seat was a mouth, and I am delighted to be able to say I have peed thereinto. Never did meet Grace, though. : . (

@corpsmoderne tiens, je connais un endroit qui a la puissance nécessaire et qui est à l'abandon depuis 20 ans. (projet de recherche, je pense que le matos de tracking laser est toujours sur place) 😇

Debian project (DB) members voted on a proposal that “neither endorses nor prohibits the use of genAI tools in the development, maintenance, or documentation of software, packaging, documentation, and other media published within the DB”
This proposal was the most favorable to AI among the 6 presented to voters. The winning text argues that LLMs increase developers’ productivity and help them save time for tasks that require greater accuracy and attention to detail.

Tone Trace EQ 1.0.2 is out! New instances now start in Voice mode, and the band pages work immediately as a standalone graphic EQ, so capturing a match isn't necessary. This release also improves mouse support (yes, that feels weird to write), and the plugin window now has more usable room at different display scales. https://github.com/dgl1984/ToneTrace/releases/latest
